Anaesthesiology is a discipline of Medicine that deals with assessing and optimizing the patient before an operation; administering an anaesthetic and ensuring a patient's well-being during an operation; contributing to postoperative management including pain management; resuscitating and managing critically ill patients in the intensive care unit; and managing acute and chronic pain.
